TotalWing Wingfoil Awards 2024: the results!

Happy new year ! After a whole month of intense battles and voting, it’s time to announce the results of the TotalWing Wingfoil Awards 2024! But first of all, we would like to thank you all, athletes as well as brands and also all those who voted and shared, for playing this game thoroughly, and for allowing us to collect more than 28000 votes! And the winners are… *drum rolls*

Favorite Female Rider 2024

And so… it’s a hat-trick for Maddalena Spanu, who wins these TotalWing Awards for the third year running, with even more votes than last year (25,8%, 1 287 votes). The Spanu family certainly knows how to motivate the crowds! Even though she lost her Wingfoil Racing World Champion title in 2024, Maddalena Spanu still finished the year as Vice World Champion on this circuit, with several stage victories. Maddalena also became the first ever World Champion of the Wingfoil Racing Marathon, as well as European Champion. Another great year for one of the fastest and most strategic female riders on the planet! But it was Nia Suardiaz, runner-up in our Awards (14,51%, 724 votes), who took her world title away from her! The only podium Nia was missing was at our Awards. At just 17 years of age, Nia has already won it all: several times World Champion in GWA Freefly-Slalom, GWA Surf-Freestyle and now in Wingfoil Racing and GWA Big Air, Nia has also finished on the podium in GWA Wave. In short, an incredible list of achievements for the woman who can certainly be called the best female wingfoil rider on the planet. There was a fierce battle for third place between two young French riders, but in the end it was Anaé Rio who took the bronze medal at the TotalWing Awards 2024 (7,34%,366 votes)! At 16, the young rider from Brittany has already won the Défi Wing twice in her age category, and is starting to make a name for herself in the world of wingfoil thanks to her victories in local regattas and her participation in the GWA Youth World Cup. A youngster to watch! In fourth place, young Guadeloupean Manon Dupé rounded off the rankings (5,61%, 280 votes). At just 15, she is French champion in freestyle as well as slalom, and was recently spotted by Duotone to join their team. Her future looks bright!

Favorite Male Rider 2024

BOOOM! Kamil Manowiecki has arrived in our Awards just as he arrived at the Wingfoil Racing circuit: with a bang! Kamil ended the Spanu supremacy with an impressive percentage of the votes (51,58%, 5 942 votes). In competition, Kamil Manowiecki is one of the few who can shake World Champion Mathis Ghio: he even took victory from him in the stages in Sardinia and Brazil. Finishing Vice World Champion in the Wingfoil Racing World Tour, just 4 points behind his Ozone team-mate, we can’t wait to see what waves Kamil will be making in 2025! Well done! In second place is one of our regulars at the Awards, Italian Nicolo Spanu (9,41%, 1 084 votes)! A little less in form than last year, when he finished Vice World Champion in the Wingfoil Racing World Tour, he ended 2024 in 7th place, despite making a strong comeback in the final in Brazil. In 2024, Nicolo also won the really cool Normandy VikWing regatta. We hope to see him back in the limelight in 2025! In third place was another regular in our Awards, Italian Ernesto de Amicis (7,61%, 877 votes). Another great year for the young rider, who became Wingfoil Racing U19 European Champion as well as Wingfoil Racing U19 World Champion, while finishing 13th overall. We’ll be sure to check on his progress! Fourth place went to another young rider, Frenchman Pierre Schmitz (6,08%, 700 votes). Winner of the U19 Défi Wing 2024, Pierre is working on the Zephyr Project with windsurfing legend Antoine Albeau, with the aim of breaking the absolute sailing speed record. Fast and ambitious, we’ll be keeping a close eye on where the wind takes him!

Favorite Content Creator 2024

He’s back on the podium, and this time to win: well done to Balz Müller aka @radiculo, your favorite content creator of 2024 (15,99%, 325 votes)! With his fun and creative videos and his various experiments (notably with parawing), Balz always brings more fun to our Instagram feed. Eternal runner-up in our Awards, well done to Hadou Brunner aka @hadrien_brunner (10,97%, 223 votes)! The Frenchman has one of the most qualitative Youtube channels in the world of wingfoil, with product reviews that make reference, precise and useful tutorials and also high quality video productions. Not to miss ! On the third step of the podium, and as in the previous two years, we find Erwan Jauffroy aka @erwanjauffroy, with 9,94%, 202 votes! Erwan is at the head of a very successful youtube channel, Watersport Zone, where we can find detailed tutorials, product reviews and even exclusivities, techniques, advice but also really fascinating interviews! And this mainly in wingfoil, but also in windsurfing, kiteboarding, SUP… in short, a reference! In 2024, Erwann achieved an incredible feat by crossing from mainland France to Corsica, without a sail and without a motor, carried by the swell on a SUP foil. Congrats! We close this podium with the @foilingtwins! Coming fourth with 9,65%, 196 votes, these twins from the Netherlands are bringing a breath of fresh air to Instagram with their fun, viral videos. We invite you to follow them!

The brand has significantly expanded its range this year, introducing modern profiles frontwings like the Flare and Swell, alongside the Pump Ultra High Aspect foil, designed specifically for pumping. Favorite Wingfoil Accessory 2024

Once again, A3D takes the lead as your favorite wingfoil accessory of 2024 with the Artness Pro, with an impressive 21.59% (234 votes). Building on the success of its predecessor, the Artness Pro brings an innovative twist: it’s now adjustable mid-ride, allowing riders to fine-tune their setup without missing a beat. This retractable harness remains a game-changer for wingfoil enthusiasts, eliminating the hassle of dangling harness lines and introducing unparalleled convenience. Whether you’re cruising, practicing deflate downwind, or engaging in freestyle, the Artness Pro proves to be an indispensable tool for maximizing performance and comfort. In second place, with 11.07% (120 votes), is the ION Safety Strap. Its unique design, acting as a “fuse” during crashes, continues to provide peace of mind for riders. This adjustable footstrap prioritizes safety by releasing under high pressure, significantly reducing the risk of injury. At the same time, its comfort and durability have made it a staple in the gear bags of riders at all levels. The Wingman Harness from Wingman Products secures the third spot with 9.41% (102 votes). This rigid hardshell impact vest combines back support, protection, and performance, making it a highly sought-after product for dedicated wingfoilers. Finally, the Foil Drive system retains its place in the rankings with 9.04% (98 votes). Perfect for low-wind conditions or beginners learning to foil, this lightweight, app-controlled assist system remains a favorite for its versatility and compatibility with most foil setups. Congratulations to all these innovative brands and their essential contributions to the wingfoil community!

Favorite Event 2024

It’s another victory for the GWA Wingfoil World Tour, which claims the top spot with 27.96% (428 votes)! This global circuit continues to unite the wingfoil community, featuring its signature disciplines of Freefly-Slalom and Surf-Freestyle, alongside the increasingly popular Big Air and Waves categories. Nearly 400 riders gathered to challenge themselves over heats ranging from 20 to 40 kilometers. Over the course of three days, the Tramontana wind built up to spectacular levels, allowing seven heats to be raced, totaling approximately 160 kilometers. The electric atmosphere of the Défi was as present as ever, with Mathis Ghio and Fiona Wylde emerging victorious. Fiona’s win was particularly historic, as she became the first American to claim victory at the Défi in Gruissan. Debuting in third place with 16.2% (248 votes), the Wing In Paris Festival took the community by storm. Organized by the association Wing in Paris, this inaugural event at the Moisson nautical base featured an impressive lineup of over 30 exhibitors and countless wingfoil brands. This dedicated race circuit continued to grow in 2024, attracting more riders to compete in diverse settings, from lakes to open oceans. Notably, the addition of the Formula class introduced new regulations aimed at standardizing equipment compared to the Open class, reflecting ongoing developments in the sport. Kudos to the racers and organizers for keeping the racing spirit alive!

Disclaimers

Despite the fact that VPNs have been blocked and voting has been limited to one vote per IP address, it is clear that some of the results are suspect (Russians votes and Male category for exemple). Vote buying? Bot that can’t be detected? We have contacted the parties concerned and reserve the right to modify the results of these Awards at a later date. In any case, we’ll be trying to make voting even more secure next year, perhaps by adding a reCaptcha. But keep in mind that this is a friendly poll with nothing to win, so there’s no point cheating. For the categories of accessories, content creators and events, we had asked our followers for suggestions ahead of the awards. We’ll be doing the same thing next year, so be ready with your suggestions in early December! If we have enough people to nominate, the ‘Content Creator’ category will evolve into several categories: ‘Youtube and Podcast’ (thanks @winglifepodcast for the idea), ‘Social Media Creator’ and ‘Photographer and Videographer’.

Once again, we wish you a very happy new year 2025, and do not hesitate to follow us on Facebook as well as on Instagram so as not to miss any of the wingfoil news and the latest publications from TotalWing!
