Last week, from December 15 to 18, the last Wingfoil Racing Series World Cup took place in Jericoacoara, Brazil! With no less than 24 (!) races sailed over the four days of competition, there was a lot of suspense to know who would win this last event and who would be crowned Wingfoil Racing World Champion 2022! We give you the recap of the day by day in our last article in French and discover the results below !
After a lot of suspense and exchanges of the first place with Bastien Escofet throughout the competition, Mathis Ghio won the Jeri Wingfoil Cup, with a lead of 6.6 points (26.7)! The podium is completed by Bastien Escofet at the second place with 33.3 points, followed by Alessandro Tomasi in bronze with 43 points. Among the women, Paula Novotna won the Jeri Wingfoil Cup with 24 points, followed by Orane Ceris with 37 points then Kylie Belloeuvre with 63 points! Congrats to all!
With these results, combined with the Wingfoil Racing World Cup Italy held at Lake Garda last October, the very first Wingfoil Racing World Champions could be proclaimed: Paula Novotna and Mathis Ghio! With her two World Cup victories, Paula Novotna is undoubtedly the great champion of this circuit. She is followed by Orane Ceris, who finished third at Lake Garda, then second at Jericoacoara. And on the third step of the podium, we find the young Italian Margherita Barro, who finished 5th in Italy then 9th in Brazil. Among the men, Mathis Ghio finished 2nd at Lake Garda against Francesco Cappuzzo, but his victory in Brazil with a good margin over the latter assured him of having the title. We therefore find Francesco Cappuzzo in second place, after his victory in Italy and his 4th place in Brazil. And to complete the podium, we have Bastien Escofet in third position, with his results of 2nd in Brazil and 4th in Italy.
