Meet the SIC Maui wingfoil team !

This year, SIC Maui is going into racing mode! After presenting new versions of its Raptor wingfoil board with designs inspired by the world of auto racing, SIC Maui is starting to have more and more riders present at major international events: Rasmus Sayre at the DĂ©fi Wing and on the Wingfoil Racing circuit, Livio Menelau on Hawaiian downwinds such as Maui To Molokai and the young protĂ©gĂ© AnaĂ© Rio, who is a force to be reckoned with wherever she goes: GWA, DĂ©fi Wing, local regattas… Other riders, notably from the stand-up paddle world, complete the ranks of this team, which is highly motivated to represent the brand with their talent also on the wingfoil side. As we often talk about them here at TotalWing, we’d like to introduce you to them!

Global & Foil Team

Rasmus “Raz” Sayre

Raz Sayres is an accomplished athlete and waterman whose lifelong passion for water sports was cultivated during his upbringing on Martha’s Vineyard. Growing up with parents who were professional windsurfers, Raz inherited a strong competitive spirit, participating in global windsurfing competitions and earning numerous youth championships. His deep understanding of wind and water conditions, sharpened through years of competitive sailing, has made him a standout in the world of wingfoiling.

An early adopter of wingfoiling, Raz has leveraged his diverse experience in kite foiling and dinghy sailing to become a top competitor in wingfoil racing. His impressive list of achievements includes being the Windsurfing Kona Class World Champion, a three-time T293 Youth National Windsurfing Champion, and securing third place at the 2023 Gorge Paddle Challenge Wing Course Race… and more!

When he’s not wingfoiling, Raz enjoys surfing, downwind SUP foiling, and spearfishing. He also dedicates time to coaching sailing, sharing his knowledge and passion with others. Beyond his athletic pursuits, Raz is actively involved in preserving the wild spaces he loves, advocating for environmental conservation.

We met up with Raz a few weeks ago for an interview in which he tells us about his career, his goals and talks about his favourite Maui SIC gear. Not to be missed!

Terrence Clapper

Athlete, Instructor, and Waterman—these three words perfectly describe Terrance. His lifelong connection to water sports began in childhood, drawn to fishing, swimming, and windsurfing. Inspired by Taty Frans, Terrance excelled in professional slalom, becoming a multiple-time champion.

Terrance’s passion for water sports is boundless, extending even to windless days. To stay competitive, he embraced windfoiling and, in 2021, discovered the thrill of wing foiling, falling in love with its challenging and exhilarating movements. Despite his diverse interests, slalom racing remains his forte, providing an unparalleled adrenaline rush as he glides at high speeds.

Beyond his competitive nature, Terrance is dedicated to teaching windsurfing and wing foiling. He finds joy in sharing his expertise and witnessing the positive impact on his students. Living on the island of Bonaire, with its abundant water and sun, continuously fuels his athletic pursuits and passion for water sports.

Ludo Teulade

Born in land-locked Paris, Ludovic’s journey to becoming a renowned waterman is extraordinary. With parents who were sports teachers, he explored various activities, including swimming, skiing, and skateboarding. Frequent trips to the Atlantic coast for surfing small waves and shore-break fun ignited his early love for water sports. His passion for stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) began in Marseille and quickly evolved into a competitive pursuit. Ludo became a two-time French National Champion, a GlaGla Race winner, and secured numerous top-five finishes in international competitions, along with multiple victories on the Waterman Tahiti Tour.

Ludo’s passion for foiling began with downwind runs, where he discovered new speeds and possibilities. He embraced wing foiling, finding it an exhilarating way to enjoy any water condition. Whether flying in light winds, riding small waves, or navigating freely, wing foiling enhances the sensation of speed and freeriding. One of his most memorable experiences was crossing Lake Neuchâtel on a downwind SUP foil, a magical descent he never imagined possible.

As a valued member of the SIC Maui Global Team and newly welcomed into the Foil Team, Ludo shares his extensive experience and passion with future generations, guiding them through their first flights. His journey from Paris to becoming a top waterman highlights his dedication and competitive spirit, making him a true ambassador of the sport.

Livio Menelau

With three words to describe him: Athlete, Father, and Waterman, Livio Menelau’s journey into wing foiling began during the pandemic. Transitioning from SUP foil, he quickly mastered the art of soaring above the water. Livio says, “Wing foiling allowed me to explore local reefs and locations on Maui where I had not been able to reach before.”

His passion for downwind racing has led him to compete in iconic events like the SIC Gorge Paddle Challenge and local Maui races. Livio finds fulfillment in every wave conquered, every race completed, and every moment shared with his family. As a dedicated athlete and waterman, his love for wing foiling continues to push him to new heights and adventures.

We had the pleasure of chatting with Livio last year, when he reviewed the SIC Maui Raptor V3 wing and told us about his Maui to Molokai race.

Ethan Bry

Ethan, who lives on the stunning Presqu’ile de Crozon in Brittany, France, is a true master of the sea. Surrounded by ideal conditions, he excels in a variety of water sports, including surf, SUP foil, surf foil, and wing foil. However, it’s in SUP Race where he truly shines. At just 19, Ethan has already made big waves on the international SUP scene, training with coach Amaury Dormet and competing with the Crozon Waterman Club.

But foiling, whether with a wing or a paddle, is becoming an increasingly important part of his life. Last December, he even told us that during his first year of medicine, he could only do “one session a week, but it was really 95% of the time foiling because it’s really the activity that gives me the most adrenalin and pleasure”.
