From March 17th to 27th took place the very first GWA World Cup dedicated to the new discipline of the “Expression Tour”: the wingfoil Wave! It was on the Ponta Preta spot, in Sal, Cape Verde, that 10 women and 31 men competed in 20 minute heats to score the best waves. Many twists and turns took place during this competition: favorites being eliminated in the first rounds, and completely new faces making their way to the podium. In fact, almostall the men on the podium had never done GWA podiums before! And on the women’s side, the winner Moona White had already won the GKA kitesurfing competition on the same spot a few days earlier. More than in other wingfoil disciplines, the riders of this GWA Cape Verde came from many sporting backgrounds: wave kitesurfing, surfing, SUP surfing, windsurfing… This spectacular Wave discipline offers a strong potential for evolution for wingfoil. So, if you haven’t watched the live, don’t miss the replays! Some heats like Clement Roseyro vs Titouan Galea will really be remembered. And even if we can a little deplore the choice of the spot which was fatal for a lot of gear, wings and boards, we must admit that Ponta Preta brought incredible waves to our competitors. Here are the results.
