The all-new FreeWing AIR Team V5 is the brand’s most advanced wing to date — an elite, no-compromise version of the best-selling AIR V5, built for riders pushing the limits in waves, freestyle, and downwind. Co-developed with the FreeWing Dream Team, the AIR Team V5 retains the trusted AIR V5 chassis while taking performance up a level with lighter, stiffer, and more durable materials.

At the core of this evolution is the Ho’okipa Ultra PE airframe, featuring the toughest leading-edge material on the market — over 25% stronger than any other Ultra PE or Dyneema, with a supercharged weave offering 50% less stretch than Dacron. This allows for lighter seams without compromising strength, reducing overall weight while boosting stiffness, precision, and durability in all conditions.

Matched with the Ultra-X canopy, a cutting-edge triple-layer laminate exclusive to FreeWing, the AIR Team V5 delivers unmatched control and responsiveness over time, ride after ride. Riders will also appreciate the new canopy layout with additional windows for enhanced visibility, reduced flutter for a smoother, quieter ride, and an all-new hardware package featuring the carbon prepreg pistol grip boom, redesigned flagging handle, and a waist leash — all standard.

Ultra-X Exclusive Canopy
Built with FreeWing’s exclusive Ultra-X triple-layer laminate (86 g/m²), this canopy is four times more durable than standard woven fabrics. Its ultra-low stretch ensures crisp response and lasting performance. (More about the Ultra-X in our interview with Clinton Filen, FreeWing Design Director).
Ho’okipa Ultra PE Airframe
The AIR Team V5’s frame is crafted from Ho’okipa Ultra PE, a next-generation material over 25% stronger than competing Ultra PE or Dyneema options. Its ultra-tight weave provides 50% less stretch than Dacron, delivering a rock-solid airframe that maximizes stiffness without adding weight. This high-tensile fabric also allows lighter seam construction and superior abrasion resistance.

Shape and Design

Compact and Agile Geometry
With a mid-aspect ratio and short center strut, the AIR Team V5 offers balanced power in a compact outline — boosting maneuverability for effortless transitions and superb neutral drift during wave riding.
Reinforced Center Strut Connection
A wide, tapered base enhances the center strut’s stiffness, improving pumping efficiency, acceleration, and top-end control.
12.5° Dihedral Leading Edge
This refined dihedral generates more power on demand while improving lateral stability and handling when flagged out.

Equipment

Pre-Preg Carbon Boom with Pistol Grip
The new 109 cm prepreg carbon boom weighs just 345 g and features a soft-touch oval EVA grip for ultimate comfort and feedback. Its 23 mm diameter ensures excellent rigidity and control — and it stays attached inside the FreeWing bag for transport.

Extended Battens
Full-length battens completely eliminate flutter across the canopy, providing a quieter, more efficient ride in all wind conditions.
Minimalist Windows
Strategically placed PU windows offer enhanced safety and visibility while keeping weight to a minimum. Durable and flexible, they adapt to all climates.
Redesigned Flagging Handle
The lightweight, stiff handle gives excellent grip and precision when flagging the wing during wave or downwind riding.
One-Pack Wing Bag
Built from Waste2Wear recycled plastic bottles, the heavy-duty wing bag fits the wing, boom, pump, and accessories. Features include a shoulder strap, carry handle, outer zip pocket, and tie-down strap.

Light Wind Design – 3 Strut Construction

7 m² & 8 m² Light Wind Sizes
The LW versions use a 3-strut layout to stabilize larger wing tips and reduce aspect ratio for increased low-end power. Tip struts also enhance canopy tension and top-speed performance.

Sizes & Wind Range

From 2.5 m² to 8 m², the FreeWing AIR Team V5 is tuned to cover everything from powered sessions in 5 knots to high-wind control up to 34+ knots.
