Inside the Duotone “Young Blood Meets Pro Team” Invitational Camp in Tarifa

After a big autumn launch, Duotone held its “Young Blood Meets Pro Team” Invitational Camp in Tarifa for its third edition, from 11 to 13 October, gathering the next generation of wingfoilers. Talented riders from eight countries—Italy, Spain, Germany, Austria, Netherlands, Czech Republic, Poland, and Great Britain—trained alongside some of the sport’s rising stars, including Aleks and Tom Acherer, Charlie Loch, and Mar de Arce.

Over three intense days, the participants received guidance from experienced pro coaches such as Jerome Cloetens, Henning Nockel, Jaime Herraiz, and Michi Rossmeier. These coaches shared insights gained from their years of competing at the highest levels, focusing not only on riding skills but also on contest preparation, working with media, managing social media presence, and even gear repair. These workshops provided the young riders with the tools they need to succeed both on and off the water.

Thanks to event partner GoPro, the riders were also equipped with brand-new HERO 13 cameras and tasked with working in teams of 3 to 4, each group paired with a Pro Rider. Their challenge was to create their own unique clips from the training sessions. The creativity and teamwork were remarkable. You can check out the winning reel here.

Participants also discovered a brand-new WOO in their goodie bags, as the dedicated #youngblood2024 WOO high jump contest continues until November 11th. Stay tuned to see who will set new records!

Day 1

The first day kicked off with challenging weather—rain and storms prompted a shift north to Playa Valdelagrana. Despite the one-hour drive in the rain, it was worth the effort, with the young athletes enjoying fantastic Wing Foiling conditions and even some sunshine. The energy was high as riders pushed each other to attempt new tricks over three hours of non-stop action.

A standout moment came when 13-year-old Kalle Dinant from the Netherlands landed his first Backmobe, possibly becoming the youngest rider to ever achieve this.

Back in Tarifa, the group ended the day with a quick dinner and a review of their GoPro footage, reliving the day’s highlights.

“I’m so stoked! It’s amazing to be here and ride with these talented young wingers. It motivates me so much!” said Kalle Dinant.

Day 2

The second day began with a physical training session led by trainer Kuky. Later, workshops provided valuable insights into various aspects of the sport. Henning Nockel emphasized the importance of contest preparation, while Jerome Cloetens gave advice on working with media and sponsors. Paula Novotna also shared tips in a recorded video on presenting the lifestyle of a professional athlete via social media.

Though the wind remained elusive, the team quickly arranged tow-in foiling sessions at Volare beach. The young riders embraced the Surf Foiling experience, riding the southern swell despite the heavy rain in Tarifa.

“It’s inspiring to see how each participant is pushing forward, and the whole group supports each other,” commented Henning Nockel.

Day 3

With no wind on the third day, the camp continued with more Surf and Tow-In Foiling action. Another physical training session with Kuky focused on competition preparation, and Michi Rossmeier and Jerome Cloetens led freestyle technique workshops, reviewing the Day 1 footage for personalized feedback.

The camp wrapped up with a Prone Foiling session as the sun finally broke through. As the group headed back to their home countries, the bonds formed over the three days were clear, with everyone eager for more.

Statement from Jerome Cloetens on the Young Blood Camp:

“The Young Blood Camp is one of the most exciting projects to be part of. It’s incredible to see these young athletes pushing the limits of Wing Foiling with so much passion and talent. Watching them progress while supporting each other is truly inspiring. I’m honored to be part of their journey and can’t wait to see what the future holds for them!”
