The GWA Wingfoil Qualifying Series 2022 lands for the first time in Cape Town, South Africa, where Surf-Freestyle will rock at Bic Bay and Surf-Slalom at Milnerton Aquatic!
For who ?
All ages and all levels are welcome. For this QS, the divisions by ages are :
- Masters: 40+
- Open: all ages
- Women: all ages
- Youth: Under 19
Entry Fees
The entrance fee is € 75 for 1 division and € 110 for 2 divisions (example: if a junior wants to compete in Surf-Freestyle/Surf-Slalom both in the Junior and Open division), and this for each discipline (Surf-Slalom and Surf-Freestyle) .
Weather
Daytime temperatures will sit around 25.0-30.0°C. It can get chilly with the wind and when the sun goes under, so we do recommend you bring a suitable windbreaker or sweater/jacket. Average water temperature at Big Bay in Cape Town in December is 13.7°C. We would defiantly recommend bringing a thicker wetsuit. Milnerton aquatic club is at a vlei, so the water temperature is a bit warmer.

- Tuesday 6th December:
- 2pm-4pm: Validation of kite registrations (GKA) at Milnerton Aquatic Club
- 2pm-6pm: Presentation of the brands on their stands/recognition of the competition zone/ equipment tests.
- 6pm: Race director briefing.

- 6pm: Fun Foil pump competition at Milnerton Aquatic Club
- Friday 9th December:

- 5pm: Prize-giving and podiums at Milnerton Aquatic Club
Be aware that times of competition can change and will depend on weather conditions. Skippers Meeting for the following day will always be communicated at the end of the previous day, and in the local event WhatsApp group.
What is a GWA Qualifying Series event ?
Launched in 2022, the Qualifying Series offer a progressive, supporting structure for athletes, national wingfoil associations and youth development around the world. At its core the QS Partnership Program help national wingfoil associations launch and develop sustainably, while the Qualifying Series of events will offer an exciting opportunity for the most promising riders to go on to compete on the GWA Wingfoil World Tour throughout the 2023 season. At the end of the 2022 season the top five ranked male and female riders in the Qualifying Series will qualify for the full GWA Wingfoil World Tour in 2023.
